Final Reflection For American Literature 2019-2020

This school year was different... 1. This course that, thinking back at the time, was very glad to be put in, and still am, is one of kind because of our first impression of him. Of course, we thought the class would go on like any other, yet he introduced himself in a way that would gain our trust at least half way if not immediately. Two ways of learning were presented, learning through the normal way or a way we have not seen before. Therefore, we chose the odd one. It was interesting to see what came out of that way of learning. Out of all my teachers, this class surely brought out the best in me even if I did not realise it. 2.  Looking back through the times we spent, as expected, our first impression of him was the most meaningful one. He did not only ruin our expectations of him, but he said in a way that was relieved us. Ahh, but the other meaningful time would surely also be the writing conferences! They were very intriguing, and it made me think of all sorts of quest...

Journal May 1

May 1, 2020 Today has been spent with my lack of sleep due to a pretty old show I just recently picked up interest in and working on church activities we have on certain Fridays lately. This church activity was ‘t focused mainly or religious topics, but they were activities to help us pick up hobbies that we may find interesting. Such hobby activities were learning how to draw/paint, how to cook, how to play an instrument, etc. Other activities were watching films or music videos our organisation created, also, of course, short bible studies in between of a series of other activities. These were all done online and each activity had a schedule. Very funnnn Besides that, I’ve been thinking about how I should wisely spend this last full month of the school year that would keep me productive, happy, and healthy.

Online Meeting Notes ( April 16, 25, 29 )

April 16, 2020 ”New Normal” - chaos - adjustments - routine developments Although there is chaos, we can also notice certain people supporting each other and working together, filled with love and care. Fahrenheit 451 - Montag on the run and almost gets hit by a car - Having a small silver of hope and seeing humanity - Montag wonders if those who killed Clarisse are the ones who tried to hit him with a car - Montag decides to frame Mrs. Black’s husband by going to their house and have their house to get burned down - “war” the society and any “outside thinkers” have in the book / America at war, but not knowing with who at this point - Faber guides Montag - path to take/noting that he’s in deep trouble and would die by noon - Montag gives Faber $100 to use in any way - First city name we’ve heard = “St. Louis” - Mechanical Hound following Montag along with a TV broadcast ( luckily, Montag told Faber what to do with everything he touched ) “Why would the news ma...

Journal ( April 13 - 30 )

April 13, 2020 At first, it was a big struggle to adjust into being stuck at home although we usually wish to be able to stay at home. However, this was a struggle because the news slowly hit. My best friends and I were planning to have big fun for the last three days that we had left before the lockdown, but it was cancelled. That fun getting ruined kind of hit us pretty hard because we treated the news as if we were never seeing each other ever again, and basically that’s what happened. As you and probably many know, I started wearing a masks on a daily basis about 2 weeks or more before the lockdown. At the start, the reason for that was “the air”, my parents said. I always had the case of having bad lungs or weak immune system, but not too bad where I needed to have an inhaler with me everywhere. I’ve always been wearing masks when I would live and visit Asia because it is very polluted there. They probably noticed that it’s been smelling like something is being cooked those days...

Cue Theme Music

The ideas about what the central message of The Great Gatsby talked about in class were all good ones, and somehow similar but explained in multiple ways. Our group said, “The central message is to live in the moment because the past cannot be changed to obtain the American Dream.” As an American Dream, it can be starting anew, but for the book, or Gatsby specifically, it is Daisy. As for me, I believe that the central message is about not being able to move on from any happenings that occurred in the past and constantly having the strong desire to correct that past during the present time and hoping to continue fixing it in the future. That was what Gatsby, impressing Daisy in the present time to replace the happenings from the past. Maybe the saying “love is blind” does go along well with this book as well because the one time Daisy caused that accident, Gatsby decided to take the blame because he loves Daisy that much.

Preview of Great Gatsby Essay

The last line of the book is arguably the most important: “So we beat on, boats against the current, borne ceaselessly into the past.”  How does this line embody the thematic conflict that defines  The Great Gatsby ? Pretty much every human being have wished to alter or relive the past do to various reasons, and that arguably important last line in the book relates to that. The saying of not being able to start a new chapter in your life if you keep re-reading the last one is somewhat a connection or behind explanation to it. Finishing  The Great Gatsby , us readers know that Jay Gatsby continued to impress the girl he had a “romantic connection” with from the past, when in the present time, she is already married. One more point is the country he is living in is known as the dreamlike place where many can start over, not knowing reality from dreams. Reading on, we find that Gatsby's dream is not surprisingly Daisy. In the quoted line, “So we beat on,.....

Great Gatsby Notes ( Chapters 1-9 / Meet Nick / What’s So Great About Gatsby? )

What’s So Great About Gatsby? 1. Is Gatsby great?  Is he even good?  Why/ why not? Well, in my opinion, Gatsby is just someone who couldn’t move on from the past or lived in it. He is, therefore, not that good nor great. Gatsby lived his entire life trying to impress a girl he “loved” to the point of dying for her, but Daisy just moved on with her life not even acknowledging his existence and what he has done for her. 2. Nick opens the book by complimenting himself for his honesty.  Is Nick honest with himself?  Why does he constantly hang out with dishonest people?  Why does he respect them and seek out relationships with them? Nick is an honest person, but towards other characters, he isn’t so honest because he never specified his relationship with Jordan Baker, and continued to be friends with Gatsby although he lies to him. Also, he never told Daisy about Myrtle when he found out. He respects and seeks our relationships with them, probably to feel somew...

Have To Vs. Want To Vs. Get To

Agreeing to complete work for each other: you’re volunteering, and although it can be something that you’ll be agreeing to, it can be a bother since it’s work done to benefit others. Being told what to do for homework: Less appealing because you are telling them to do something against their will, and besides forcing, you are stressing them out. Yet, it can also be a good thing because for me, I like being busy to take my mind of certain stuff. Exploring what you want to in your own way: the freedom to do something that interests you while being able to keep track of the progress.

Gatsby Test; Chapters 1-4

- How is the character of Jay Gatsby presented to the reader? - What is the symbolism of the green light? - What is Nick like as a narrator? - What does Tom’s behaviour reveal about his character? - Describe Mr. Wilson and Myrtle. I’m Ignited

- How can we reduce poverty? - Is life real or a hallucination? - Why do we always have the feeling that we have to please others?

F.C.L.E ~ Sushi 寿司

We decided to make the dish sushi, containing six different ingredients inside a seaweed, because it was one both of us took interest in. It is also a representation of how one person from a different culture can learn and take interest in making a cuisine from a different culture. Ready To Read, Dr. Preston~

I remember the first day of school like it was yesterday. I was feeling very hopeful that I would love or at least take interest about anything in any of the classes I am taking. As for fifth period, my friends are also in my class period so I was not too worried or really pondered about how I would survive throughout the entire year. From what I remember, once I entered the classroom, my first two thoughts were, “whoah, it’s pretty nice,” and, “gotta find good seats.” I was with Alyssa at the time, so we found seats near each other and spaces for our other friends. I am sure that I was mainly focusing on the neatness of the classroom and is suddenly finding the right inside voice volume and fitting personality. Meaning, I had to decide if I can act like how I act outside of class. My first impression of you was that you seemed like the type of person who is very organised. Breaking it down, your diction with the way you dresses were equally balanced and definitely not annoying, whic...

How did I do?¿

Today, I got interviewed in class, and I really want to know how I did.

Sen’s Relaxation

Image
Ever since I started Junior year, the more I realised that having time for myself is extremely important, to stay sanely healthy! To stay positive and energetic, and to never let the sadness and sorrow take over your life. I agree that in most cases, you may say, “But Sen, I have so much work and would have to do all of them to receive good grades/results.” or “I really want to go all out and join and participate in as much extracurricular activities my busy schedule can handle.” There are more possible reasons, and they may all be good reasons, but you have to always remember that no matter how important they are, once it affects your mental health, yourself should be priority. No worries, I am also one of you, and is still adjusting into a better time management. I am actually not educated enough in many parts of my subjects, especially math, so I am required to work harder than others. While being part of choir, drama, church, and other hobbies. Not to mention, making the time f...

Literary Analysis 2

Title : Frostblood Author: Elly Blake Year Book Published: 2017 1. What drew me into this book was the title because somehow, my mind was curious as to how frost and blood connected. Which then led me into thinking about what personality and characteristic the main character would have just by judging from the title and how the book is designed. I expected and hoped to be completely attached to the characters of the book because I know that once that happens, finishing or reading the book would be less harder to  accomplish. Understanding the theme, plot, and characteristics of every single character is easier to know. 2. What kept me reading the past 10 pages was my curiosity as to how the main character, Ruby, and her family got into the awful situation, and why it was such a big deal for her to be a so called fireblood. 3. My reading habits are thinking ahead and writing or marking any parts of the book, I feel, should be remembered or are important. Thinking ahead wou...

The Value Of My Time

The time investments that I am making these days are mainly about school, church, and extracurricular activities. For sure, those take up most of my time because they are giving me the sense of success and pleasure that may help me achieve or satisfy my obsession over getting recognised. Another reason is because I am one who seems like the type to have a rightful amount of confidence and self-esteem, yet, those are my time investments because they are helping me boost up the confidence and self-esteem. The time investments that are helping me achieve my goals I have planned for my future are the same ones. School wise, studies are important for a bright future, of course. For church, coming from a religious family, trusting and relying everything to God is important, and having to work to keep my faith up is very very important. As for the extracurricular activities, they are helping me regain the missing and lacking confidence and self-esteem I should have for the real world I am pr...

On Self-Reliance Part 2

“Good will not have his work made manifest by cowards.” “Trust thyself: every heart vibrates to that iron ring.” We feel at our best when we know we did our best. Summary: “Young people/teenagers are nonchalant” - different thoughts as to why that statement exist - technically, everyone are just being themselves The summary of this I agree and want to point out that hopefully I can tell the entire world such. Not knowing those points or anything in the Emerson essay, I feel, is the reason why many are so misunderstood and are having troubles accepting certain facts or opinions about reality, themselves, and others.

Rhetorical Strategies Part 1

Ethos - convincing an audience with a credible person as the evidence. (artist, famous doctors, etc.) Pathos - convincing a audience through their emotions Logos - persuading an audience using facts and figures Kairos - a right time for a decision or action Example: ETHOS story - The Ethical Challenges Self-Driving Cars Face Everyday author - Johannes, philosopher ( works with engineers in, “Standard Center Automative Research”)

First Impression: On Self-Reliance

“Ne te quaesiveris extra." - “do not seek outside yourself” / “look within” “Our acts our angels are, or good or ill,” “Cast the Banting on the rocks,... Power and speed be hands and feet.” - this goes to our very being Eminent - famous or respected Admonition - lecture or warning Toil - work the belief is genius, not the thought we have an inside voice - mind that we talk to ourselves with not getting education from books , etc. thinking for yourselves “Imitation is suicide” “The only champion of your life is you.” My first impression of this is kind of a feeling and then a thought because the more words I read, the more woke or the more my mind started thinking about the past relatable experiences come into mind. I felt like I was being scolded or somewhat being reminded that I am lazy to think or give myself any credit, and let others steal the thunder or so.
