So This Guy Goes For A Walk

I believe that Ray Bradbury wrote “The Predestrian” is written because what happened to him is confusing to himself, so he wrote about as a way to let his imagination run wild. In the story  The Pedestrian , written by Ray Bradbury in 1950, a man goes for long walks every evening by himself. The year setting of the story is 2053 and is a prediction of what he thinks the society will be like at that time. Mr. Mead, the main character, has never seen another person out walking during the many hours that he has strolled. The only evidence of human activity are the flickering of the lights within the houses coming from the televisions. On this particular evening, a police car stops and orders him to put his hands up, to get inside the car, despite his protests. While he approaches the dark he realises that there was no driver because the car is automated. Apparently, his behaviour is not acceptable in this society because no walks anymore, making it seem weird for him to be walkin...

Let Me Walk You Through The Pedestrian

In the story The Pedestrian , written by Ray Bradbury back in 1950, a man goes for long walks every evening by himself. Apparently, his behaviour is not acceptable in this society because no walks anymore, making it seem weird for him to be walking. Therefore, the main theme of the story is the dehumanisation of the human society ensued by the development of technology, and I was able to figure it out with the plot, tone, and...

Story Of My Life

There was this one time when I entered high school, interested knowing that this is the point where we get our glow ups, new experiences, and the process we’ll go through to graduate and be a college student or somewhat an adult. First period was choir, and second through third period was math. Now, my main story starts when I came in my math classroom, and the first thing my eyes landed on was this one boy at the corner of the room. What piped my interest was the fact that he is obviously a fellow Filipino. I have no idea how we do it, but all my life, I’ve had this sixth sense where I can tell who is Filipino and who is not, and I was desperate to make some Filipino friends because I’ve been bullied and teased for being the lonesome Asian in my past schools. Two years have passed by, and we’re now Juniors, and I kid you not, we’re closer than ever. We became friends in Freshman year, best friends in Sophomore year, and we by Junior year, we know that we like each other more than frie...

Hawthorne & Poe On Dreams

How do authors use the idea of dreaming to make us think about what’s real? Hawthorne used the idea of dreaming to make the readers think twice about what they believe is real or not by describing a character’s behaviour and how it would change drastically because dreams that we have causes us to double think of what we’re seeing is reality or not. Poe tells us readers how the author points out everything he has experienced has been a Dream, everything from a bittersweet departure to standing near the ocean and reflecting on oneself is all simply a dream. In the line “All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream,” and I believe that this supposedly refers to the idea that everything we would and have experience(d) in our lives isn’t what it seems. Both authors seemed to have delivered the message that not everything is what it seems through providing a scene or line that contains a hallucination or a dream.

How I Read

Amateur: - it doesn’t necessarily mean worse - “love” Anaphora Synecdoche Analysing Texts “Words and ideas can change the world.” Unfamiliarity comes to/from fear. Fear that of not understanding. It is not someone’s business to say “ugh” if that someone is able to differentiate why this thing is worse than that thing. Since most creators have passed, and can not be asked what they really meant, humans these days use terms and such to figure out what the creators really meant when the creators never intended to create such using the terms that haven’t existed during their time. “Do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life.” - Chinese Proverb Sapere Aude - dare to be wise My impression for the blog How We Read was impression. I had the feeling of being woke. I was impressed at all of what you wrote and pointed out because each paragraph helped me realise things that I know I’ve realised, but never really realised that I realised it. Did that make sense? ...

Investing In Me

Question: How are you going to start fundraising for your life after school? My idea ever since, probably the second semester of Sophomore year, I was planning to find a job, hopefully get accepted, and start planning from then on. An idea I learned from someone was to put aside at least fifty dollars into a savings account you can only access until you’re eighteen years old, and increase that ten dollars more every pay check. It’s not such a bad idea, but it seems somewhat weak considering how cruel and expensive reality is. However, my parents have raised me with a mindset that I will never finish school until I find a job that can provide my everyday needs. I don’t have to be rich, but just good enough for my family and I to have the needs we ever need. Also, since my sisters are all college graduates, they decided to, if I seriously need help, they are willing to “donate” for their youngest sister. However, again, I will still do my best to pick up coins, do chores, find a job,...

Letter To A Mentor Draft 1

Hello ......, I’m Jonessallin Dineros, you can call me Sen, and I’m very interested in exploring different Asian cultures because growing up Asia, and continuing the past 8 years of my life in USA, I’ve grown to be proud of my Philippine culture. The differences both cultures have are very distinct, and as I look into other Asian cultures compared to, for example, European cultures, I somewhat felt more attached learning about the cultures other Asian countries have. I’m not entirely sure if it’s due to me being Asian. Now, it’s not merely exploring and learning, but I would want it as a job as well. I would like to know what type of job can I get to do such. For example, would it be media, business, or researcher, and so forth? That is why, I am really excited to meet you and earn some tips and guidance as to how I’ll find and experience multiple different Asian cultures, and how to respect and put them to use in my everyday life. Thank you. Sincerely, your future student.

First Impression Of Dream Within A Dream

My first impression of Dream Within A Dream by Edgar Allan Poe was confusion because although I understood a meaning of a phrase or a word, individually, trying to match all of the lines was what I had trouble doing. His narratives were interesting because they would change a lot, and my mind wouldn’t be able to process it in a clever way. Every time I thought I figured out the message, I doubted myself because one line or two wouldn’t match. My idea was that he may have been talking about the dreams our dreams, also what we know as reality when we’re dreaming, are dreaming about. Inside our dreams, it can be as discomforting as our reality, thus, cause us to think of a better reality? Not sure if that made sense to you guys, but it made perfect sense it my head.
