A Jikkō-sha ( + Richard Cory Poem )
In Asia, Philippines for example, school is considered the only way one can have an acceptable future. Therefore, us students would wake up at 4 in the morning, go to school at 5, take any kind of transportation as that would usually take 30 minutes due to traffic, and be seated 10-20 minutes before the teacher arrives. After school, we’d be busy for extracurricular activities, then prepare to go straight to night school, and usually get home at around 8PM.
In our school system, there are sections, A to D. The smart ones would most likely be in A and vice versa. Also, there would be rankings for each grade, and those in Top 5 being the best. You would think that those who didn't get placed are the ones who have to be ashamed of themselves, but it was those in the 2nd to 5th who are bullied the most for not being as amazing as 1st.
I was always either the 3rd or 5th.
So, my mother would put me in multiple tutoring classes, mainly for contests like poem, singing , and quiz bees, but of course, to do better in studies. I started doing those when I was 3 until I moved to USA about 3 months after I turned 8. I thought I would get away from the pressure, but they only doubled. For studies, I have my sisters who tutor me until they lose their patience while doing so. As for performance wise, I mainly focused violin, piano, and flute lessons, but I didn't do great and was quickly switched to focusing in vocal and online language lessons.
Blogging about these, it wasn't my intention to gain sympathy or brag. I loved performing on stage, I loved knowing I have even a bit of knowledge on skills to do certain things others least expect from me, but all the more being able to learn how to find happiness during times of hardships and persecutions. I simply felt the need to share it to whoever is reading this post.
